Dog with Down Syndrome in South Florida is getting free leash after being adopted

HALL COUNTY, Fla.

(AP) A South Florida dog with Down syndrome is getting a free leash when she is adopted, but it is not due to the breed.

Horse racing officials say the Pit Bull Dog, named Margo, was taken from her family at a pet store in Broward County in March after they moved away.

The adoption process took four months and was supervised by the South Florida Humane Society.

A judge has denied a request by the Pit Bulls Rescue League to release Margo because she is a pit bull.

The group says she is an abused and neglected dog who is prone to aggression.

In Florida, the Pit bulls must be kept on a leash at all times and there are strict rules about where and when they can be in the community.
