The owner of a dog that bit a puppy owner at a petco store in California has been charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty, according to the Santa Ana County Sheriff’s Office.
The Santa Ana News-Press reports that police arrested 32-year-old Mark Thomas on Thursday.
Thomas, of Santa Ana, California, told investigators that he grabbed the dog’s muzzle and tried to pull the leash off the dog, but the dog bit him in the face.
Thomas reportedly said the dog was attacking him and he had to fight it off with a towel.
The dog was taken to a vet and tested positive for rabies, the Sheriff’s office said.
Petco leashing is a common practice at petco stores in the United States.
In December, a California woman was charged with animal cruelty after her 12-year old daughter was attacked and bitten by a dog at a Petco store.
The woman was reportedly given a temporary restraining order against the dog.
